National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) was formed in 1975 at Purdue University by six African American students known within NSBE as “The Chicago Six.” As a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, NSBE’s mission statement is “To increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” With more than 15,000 national members, the National Society of Black Engineers is the largest student-managed organization in the world with NSBE Jr. (Pre-College), collegiate, and professional chapters throughout the U.S.

NSBE Greater Baltimore Professionals Chapter

The National Society of Black Engineers – Baltimore Metropolitan Area Chapter (NSBE-BMAC) was officially chartered in March of 1989 as one of the first ten Alumni Chapters (now called professional chapters) in the country. NSBE-BMAC changed it’s name to NSBE Greater Baltimore Professionals (NSBE GBP) in 2017. NSBE GBP represents Scientists, Technologists, Engineers, Mathematicians, and other professionals in the Baltimore Metropolitan area.

NSBE GBP offers its members opportunities for leadership and professional development, mentoring, professional networking, community outreach geared towards having a positive impact to the Baltimore metropolitan area. NSBE GBP also encourages its members to stimulate enthusiasm for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in the African American community and to promote technical advancement, professionalism and camaraderie amongst STEM professionals.

NSBE BMAC efforts focus on four areas:
